The 1956 Winter Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy took another step towards the modern-day Olympics. With these games came the introduction of the starting gate in Alpine Skiing. The time was automatically started and the athlete was allowed to leave the gates within 0.5 seconds of the start trigger. OMEGA also made it possible for spectators to see the running time from the finish line. Both innovations were great ways of conducting more accurate timekeeping and helping spectators feel more involved and informed.
