Love and Nature

I wanted each piece to feel organic, as if the stone had been born in the setting.
Head Designer for John Hardy Guy Bedarida

John Hardy’s Cinta Collection, meaning ‘love’ in Indonesian, is an eclectic collection that evolves from “old European jewelry traditions, nature, and fantasy”. Each piece is intricately embellished with colorful stones and shells and carries a significant meaning and aspect of Indonesian history and culture. Love, the dragon, pink frangipani, and shell are a few elements of Indonesian culture that are represented in the earrings, rings, cuffs, and necklaces of this collection.

The rose is an age old symbol of love and the Cinta collection utilizes rose colors such as red, pink, and purple to infuse the pieces with this sentiment. The Mawar, ‘the rose bracelet’ and Karasmin ‘ the joy of love’ are two 18K pink gold cuffs that both feature pavé set red and pink gemstones surrounding a center stone.

The Naga is the cosmic dragon in Indonesian culture symbolic of life, happiness, and prosperity. The Naga crown is a cuff of sterling silver and 18K gold with a marquis cut citrine set between two dragon heads whose bodies are jewel studded and fall along the curve of the cuff. This same Naga theme appears in a ring and a marquis-cut citrine pendant sterling silver necklace.

The pink frangipani is represented through pink flower shaped opal which appears in an 18k pink gold cuff, earrings, and ring. The pink frangipani is used as a prayer flower in Indonesian culture and to adorn the hair of temple dancers.

Shells too highlight this collection. The earrings, “Sumba in sunlight” are indicative of the Sumba Island in Indonesia. They are a unique pair of 18K gold drop earrings featuring marble cone shells adorned with sapphires, spessartites, garnets, and diamonds. The cone shell is also featured in an 18K gold ring with malacon center stone in a sunburst motif studded with captivating yellow gemstones. This ring entitled ‘Savu Star’ is an illumination of the coral-ringed Savu islands. The conch shell too makes an appearance in an intricate piece ‘Sumatra Sun King’. This is a ring of 18k gold and conch shell with a spiral of gemstones circling out from a spessartite center stone.

In addition to each pieces cultural meaning, these pieces evoke Indonesian nature. The Segara, meaning sea, is a beautiful necklace that draws on the imagery of the sea. This 18K white gold and blue zircon necklace features a turquoise pendant that offers an illusion of water. This pendant is edged in diamonds with a diamond studded fish that appears to swim within the turquoise. 18K white gold and diamond earrings, called White Riam (White Cascade) represent the rapids of a running river. These drop earrings consists of diamond studded spears that cascade down, like the cascade of water. The Cinta collection is varied, organic, striking, and meaningful having creatively incorporated the depth and richness of Indonesian culture and nature.
