The Watch of “Better than Steel”

J12 Chromatic Dial

It was over a decade ago that Chanel added to the Horology history books and unveiled the first high impact ceramic watch.  Enter the Chanel J12, an iconic watch that has won the hearts of many by their sleek black or white entirely ceramic watch.  This was an industry first; ceramic is one of the most ideal materials that watchmakers can use for their casing and bracelets.  It is more resistant to scratching and wearing than steel or gold.

Although Chanel paved the way, ceramic is now a material that has been widely accepted and is now used among the top selling watch brands in the world.

In 2011, Chanel pioneered another technological feat. They created the newest watch in the J12 line, the Chanel J12 Chromatic.  This new material is made up of titanium ceramic, a substance that is 25% lighter than steel, 20% harder than High Tech Ceramic, and 8 times harder than stainless steel!

The J12 Chromatic has a very unique mirrored polish finish making it very comparable in looks to steel.  Chanel has refined this process by using a diamond powder polish to finish the cases and bracelets. The process that is used to polish the titanium ceramic takes 3 times longer than it takes to finish regular High-Tech Ceramic. To add to the overall richness of the look, Chanel has incorporated a textured dial to really make the watch stand out from its counterparts.

J12 Chromatic - Baguette

The Chromatic is released in 7 different styles. Available in 33,38, or 41mm without diamonds, and then there are 2 different diamond styles on 2 sizes. There is the classic round diamond bezel/diamond dial and then there is the ultra flattering baguette version.
