Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre a Quantieme Lunaire
One of the most talked about pieces from the Jaeger-LeCoultre collection in the past year has to have been the Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire. JLC is honoring the history of their horology with the design of this piece; it is reminiscent of their 19th century pocket watch. This watch is a unique technical feat from one of the world’s most prestigious watch manufactures.
What makes the Duomètre such an exceptional piece is JLC’s mastery of micromechanics. There are two independent power reserves that drive this mega-machine. One power reserve is responsible solely to provide the most accurate time measurement possibly (Hours, minutes, and seconds), while the second power reserve has the job of driving the watches other functions. The secondary power reserve fuels the date feature, moon phase, and the rare 1/6th of a second “jumping seconds” display.
The beast of a movement that Jaeger utilizes in this watch is their in-house caliber 381 which has two 50 hour power reserves (displayed at 7 and 4), 40 jewels, and operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour. The movement is showcased with an exhibition case back showing off the exquisite watch making decoration inspired by the Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces of the 19th century.
Currently the Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire is offered in 18k yellow gold or 18k pink gold on an alligator strap, however it was reveled at SIHH 2011 that they will be offering an 18k white gold version with black dial as well.
