Olympic Truce Wall

Only 2 days until the 2014 Winter Olympics kick off in Sochi, Russia! Today, the Olympic Truce Wall was opened up on which contestants from different countries leave their wishes to maintain peace on the planet. As athletes are settling in to their new homes-away-from-home, some athletes are extra excited because the 2014 Games will be the debut of their event. I’ve already introduced 9 of the 12 new events to this year’s games. The new events introduced thus far are: men’s and women’s snowboard slopestyle, men’s and women’s ski slopestyle, men’s and women’s ski halfpipe, luge team relay, team figure skating, and mixed biathlon relay.

Today we will be learning more about the men’s and women’s snowboard parallel slalom and the women’s ski jumping.

Snowboard parallel slalom – Men’s and Women’s
Riders will race two at a time down the same slope on two parallel courses, outlined with gates and triangular flags.

Women’s ski jumping – Women’s
The women’s normal hill event will mark the first time that women will compete in ski jumping at the Winter Games.
