Omega: Official Timekeeper of the London Olympics
Omega has had a long history with the Olympic Games, making their first appearance in the Los Angeles Olympics in 1932. The last time London hosted the summer Olympics was in 1948 and Omega was by their side as the official timekeeper of the Olympics.
This year marks Omega’s 25th year as an official timekeeper for the Olympic Games. With every year at the Olympics also brings new advances in timekeeping technology. Omega has been credited with bringing us such innovations as athletic time blocks, photo finishes and the Omegascope which allowed the time of each competitor to be displayed on the TV screen. Some of the improvements that we will be seeing from Omega are a new false start detection system on the runners’ blocks as well as loud speakers on the starting blocks.
There are over 10,000 athletes competing in the 2012 Summer Olympics and Omega will be along to record every time and every new world record. We wish the athletes all of the best!
